It is with great honour and pride that we can now share with you our film of Powered By Youth.
This excellent capture, pulled together by Jim Funnell at Sound Communities, gives a sense of the energy of the day and the utter brilliance of young people stepping up so bravely to share what matters to them.
What you will see is that the presentations and performances inspired other young people in the room to speak very much in the moment, no pre-planning, just speaking from the heart. This is powerful.
In September, 27 children and young people gathered in the Spanish Barn at Torre Abbey to share their experiences, thoughts & feelings about living in Torbay. 15 of those young people were supported through trusted relationships to tell us about what matters to them in a range of mediums – voice notes, theatre, music video, collage, speech.
“Thank you so, so much for today! It was absolutely amazing, everyone there was!”
This was followed by a beautifully organic ‘take over’ where young people – some from those groups and others who attended on the day – took the lead and held a variety of discussion tables about things they’d heard that resonated with them. Those tables were made up of decision makers and leaders from the local council, NHS, education, local business and the VCSE sector.

To say this was powerful would be an understatement, with attendees going away with a new understanding, refreshed motivation and a willingness to act on what they’d heard.
