2024

There is nothing better than celebrating success, and even more so when that success is focused on young people. On 24th August, on the final day of Children’s Week, the Imagine This youth council ran the Children and Young People’s Awards.

In the months leading up to the event, the youth council – led by Katie and Rebekah – devised categories, designed nomination forms and social media posts, gathered prizes from local businesses and ran a voting panel. To say they worked hard is an understatement!

The voting panel itself was made up of 6 young people from across the partnership. These dedicated youngsters who ranged from 9 to 19 spent a few hours at Parkfield House to read about and discuss anonymized nominations. Fueled by pizza, they worked hard to make some very difficult decisions!

On the day, Kole – hotfooting it back from Cambridge – donned his sparkly jacket and did a fantastic job of compering the event along with new MP for Torbay, Steve Darling, presenting the prizes. With incredible performances from Issy and Baille of Sound Communities, it could not have been a better showcase of the brilliant, thoughtful, talented and committed young people of Torbay. We are still brimming with pride, and we cannot wait to get thinking about next year’s awards!
