About & Vision
How we work together is crucial in achieving our aims
Working Together for Torbay’s Young People
Children and young people have told us what needs to happen. Solutions come from our commitment to collaboration, driving forward with positivity and aspiration.
Today, over 30 Community, Voluntary and Social Enterprise groups are working together to address the needs of Torbay’s children and young people, continually pursuing the dream of making Torbay a great place to grow up.
Collaboration and inclusion underpin everything we do. Positive and aspirational, we use a strengths-based approach to develop our network and support smaller organisations who are putting children and young people first.
As part of Torbay Communities, we follow an asset-based community development model. Our vision is for Torbay to be the best place to grow up, where all young people thrive, achieve and are given opportunities to be the best they can be.

Building a Brighter Future for Torbay’s Youth
The partnership was born out of a question: what would it take to make Torbay a great place to grow up?
A group of curious and dedicated individuals came together to set about discovering what children and young people wanted to see change in the Bay. You can read the full report here.
In 2018 we went out to over 500 children and young people to ask what would make Torbay a better place to grow up. 5 key challenge areas were identified as a result, which in turn led to the 5 impact groups we work through today.
- Greater Access For All
- More Spaces to Hang Out
- Protecting Our Environment
- Reducing Stress and Anxiety
- Safer Streets
From then, and with generous funding from the National Lottery, voluntary, community and social enterprise groups across the bay have joined forces to address those areas. This contract is held by Torbay Communities.
Meet The Team
The partnership is managed by a team of four:

After teaching, Jo trained in creative, therapeutic and relational practice with young people and has led and developed several multi-disciplinary youth teams. Jo is passionate about breaking down barriers to youth participation and empowerment.

Guiding Our Work
To make decisions and hold us to account we have:
A Youth Council
This group of young people contribute to the thinking and development of the partnership and steer us in the right direction. Never shy in coming forward, they hold the partnership managers and steering group to account, making sure that youth voice is consistently sought and heard.
The Steering Group
Made up of a range of partners and young people, the steering group compliments the youth council as the decision-making body of the partnership. Individuals bring their wealth of knowledge and expertise, ensuring we continually strive to meet the objectives set out in our funding bid.
